Newsletter April 2017

We have lots happing in April:  District Pinewood Derby, Camporee, Leader Specific Trainings, Face to Face Youth Protection Trainings, Oak Leaf Youth Training, IOLS Outdoor Trainings.

Pinewood Derby Championship, April 1st

The BSA Lone Start District Pinewood Derby 2017 is scheduled for April 1st.  Come join the fun.  The races include invitational races for Cub Scouts who placed 1, 2 or 3 in their Pack races and an open invitation to compete against all comers in the Open Class race.  Sign up online at www.lonestardistrict.org and bring your car for registration on Friday night, March 31 or Saturday morning, April 1st. Round Table, Thursday, April 6th, 7:30 pm

Come and join us Thursday, April 6th for our monthly first Thursday Round Table meetings.  The Cub Scout leaders meet to be given examples and to be inspired to have better den and pack meetings.  The Boy Scout leaders meet to get ideas for troop meetings and campouts. What we really need is to have you there.  All units should be represented to know what the district and council are and can do for you.  See you at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 7:30 pm; 2801 Eldorado Pkwy, McKinney, TX each first Thursday of the month.
There are also a couple of meetings before Round Table at 6:45 pm:
  • Final Camporee Planning Meeting - For youth especially as well as adults from every troop, team and crew to plan our upcoming Camporee on April 8th.  Every unit should be represented.
  • Cancelled:  Twilight Camp Planning Meeting - For every pack to prepare for and plan our upcoming June Cub Scout Day Camp.  Every unit should be represented.
Don't forget that our Order of the Arrow Chapter meets the same night and time as Round Table.  

Lone Star District Camporee, April 7-9

It is time to sign up.  Troops, Teams, and Crews set aside April 7th through 9th for the annual Lone Star District Camporee.  Webelos be prepared to come and visit as well.  
Planning meetings are being held before Roundtable March 2nd and April 6th at 6:45 pm.  All Troops, Teams, and Crews should be represented by an adult and youth.

Leader Specific Training Nights, April 18 and 20

 Are you fully trained?  You can be.  We are offering a plethora of trainings on two evenings in April.  We want you and the leaders from your unit there.  See all the things you can do to become 100% trained.

Level 1 & 2 USA Archery Instructor Training, April 22 & 23

Interested in instructing archery at scouting events?  Then come get Archery level 1 training.  Interested in teacher archery instructors?  Then come get level 2 training.  Get information to sign up at www.lonestardistrict.org/archery
Level 1 April 22 and May 6.   COST $100 (discount for registered Scouters BSA, GSA, AHG, TL $55) $35 deposit required to save your space.
Level 2 April 23 and May 7.   COST $150 $50 deposit required to hold your space.

Oak Leaf Youth Training - April 28-29

Registration deadline, Monday, April 24
Come have an awesome time and get trained at our local training for youth by youth at the beginning of April at Myers Park. 
Fri & Sat, April 28th & 29th, 6 pm Fri to 10 pm Sat at Myers Park. $30 early or $40 late (includes meals)  
A boy led, district run, skills and leadership course for the boy leaders of your units.  Adjacent to the IOLS adult training.  Sign up for Oak Leaf here.

Cub Scout Advancement Modification

The BSA announces modifications to Cub Scouting that make the program more flexible for busy parents, den leaders, and Cubmasters.

Couldn't Attend Training? Check Out BSA's Online Training!

Some courses are available in the e-Learning section of https://my.scouting.org/   A login is required, but you may create a user account and view the courses. Registered BSA members may provide their member numbers as part of the user profile to receive training credit.
Youth Protection Training
- Please keep in mind you need Face-to-Face YPT if you plan to attend Winter Camp, Twilight Camp, Webelos Residence Camp or any summer camp in Texas. 
Leader Position-Specific Training
- Den Leader, Cubmaster,  Pack Trainer, Pack Committee, Venturing Adviser, and Venturing, Varsity, and Troop Committee
Supplemental Training
- Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, Weather Hazards, Climb On Safely, Trek Safely 
Every Scout deserves a trained leader so take advantage of the online courses to help make your program safe and effective.
